Interface and icon licenses

I found the license for the Zotero source code, but what license has the Zotero interface? E.g. I create a screenshot of the Zotero desktop, but I don't know, if I can reuse it and how.

And second question. The small document-like icon of Zotero Connector in Mozilla Firefox has what license?
  • What's the context for this? Zotero does have a trademark, so any usage of its logo in apps that suggests endorsement is a no go.
Otoh, you are always free to use Zotero icon & screenshot for documentation and advertisement.
  • The context is that in those repositories, it's expected that you provide a license for a screenshot. "You are free" is a pretty vague description. So, if there are no conditions for using Zotero screenshots, I wonder whether I can point them as "public domain" or "Creative Commons Zero". If someone disputes it, I will need to point them here, and they will need to investigate whether you represent Zotero and whether you have a right to release it under the public domain. Actually, this is why licenses were discovered, to standardize the usage communication.
  • If you want a specific license, you'll find it here: https://github.com/zotero/zotero/blob/main/COPYING

  • As per Wikipedia, screenshots of free software carry the same license (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:GPL_screenshot ) so yes, see license above.
(In the US, they are also almost certainly fair use)
  • I wouldn't use a Wikipedia template as legal advice — I don't know who created that template, but I don't think it's at all a given that screenshots are a covered derivative work. In fact, FSF explicitly says that screenshots are not covered by the GPL.

Screenshots would generally be covered by fair use, though, and that would almost certainly apply to Wikipedia. But fair use is fair use — there are specific contexts in which it applies. @Juandev, you're being sort of sketchy about this, which is why you're not getting a firmer answer. If you want to make sure no one "disputes" anything, you might want to say more.

For the trademark and logos, see Usage of Zotero Trademarks and Zotero Brand.
