Search result inconsistency in group library
Hi there,
I'd like to better understand how to ensure Zotero returns the same search results for a group library, no matter who in the team is searching. I discovered that three different members of a group library got three different sets of results when performing a Quick Search under the exact same parameters.
For background, I created this group library for my team and uploaded a few hundred PDFs. Before upload to Zotero, I ran all the PDFs through an OCR server (ABBYY FineReader).
When I performed a Quick Search of the word hazardous with the Everything option selected, I got 302 results. I watched my team members perform the exact same search and get 5 and 28 results, respectively. After completing basic troubleshooting to no avail, I had them rebuild their indexes, which fixed this issue. However, this is not ideal because how do we know if the index is not working? And why is rebuilding the index even necessary? I don't fully understand what the problem could be.
Thanks for your help,
Tina

adamsmithedited August 1, 2024That really should work as long as everyone has "sync full text content" enabled in the sync preferences. I don't have an explanation of why it wouldn't.

tina_cardonaBummer. Yeah, they both had that sync option checked. I'll need to test it out more, I guess. Thanks for the response.

dstillmanWhen did you add the files, and when did they sync? Indexing of synced full-text content isn't performed immediately at sync time — it happens in the background when the computer is idle.

tina_cardonaI uploaded the files about a week before this issue occurred. It was a total of about 400 files.
