Zotero 7 Beta: Animated images in PDF file

edited January 29, 2024
I have imported this PDF file.
It has an animated image on the first page.

In the PDF.js online viewer, I can see a static image of it:

But in Zotero, it stays empty:

Can Zotero also display the static image?
Will the Reader support animated images in the future?

  • The situation is quite complex. The image in question is an annotation, and the Zotero PDF reader functions differently compared to PDF.js. Consequently, annotations that contain images are not included in this case. This situation is rare, but thanks for bringing it to our attention, and we will think how to improve that.

As for animated images, in my tests, Adobe Reader is the only viewer that supports them. Therefore, it seems unlikley that PDF.js will support animated images anytime soon, but maybe.
  • Already fixed in Zotero 7 beta.
