[Improvement Request] Can "numbers" properties be merged ?

I've figured out that standards items don't share the same "number" property than other elements types

So we have two columns for the same kind of fields to deal with

It's the same in Z6 as in Z7

Is there a way to unify these properties so we can use the same field for all items types ?
  • The properties have the same name in French, not in English (Issue and Number, respectively). They represent different things, it would be better to change one of the translated names... I'll check with the French translation team.

The translation team generally agrees that at least the issue number should be translated differently. This will be part of the current translation effort for Zotero7.

During that discussion, we have observed that a French string for issue number has been hard-coded as "Num\u00E9ro (p\u00E9riodique)" into Zotero, 10 years ago: https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/14942/

It feels like an exception we could get rid of, in favor of a more standard translation through Transifex strings. Any thoughts from the developers?
  • We came up with the following solution within the French translation team. We've changed the French translation of “Number” (itemFields.number string) to “Numéro identifiant”. This will avoid confusion with “Numéro”, translated from “Issue”.
