In dark mode, the cyan bg color of the currently selected item is too bright too read the white text

Dark mode changes the foreground color of text from dark to light. This light colored text is very hard to read (at least for me) when a selected item is marked up with the light cyan background color:

It would be great if either the text on the selected item was inverted to be dark (as in light mode) of if the cyan highlight color was made darker in dark mode, e.g. looking something like this.

The increased contrast between the background highlight color and the foreground text color makes the text easier to read for me.
  • (Based on your previous posts, I'm assuming this is Linux. For styling-related reports like this, it would be helpful if you could include info about your OS/distro/relevant theme customizations in the future.)

We don't set that cyan color - it's coming from your system color scheme; specifically, I think, the selected_bg_color color scheme variable. You could try darkening it as a quick fix. We'll look into adjusting the text color to avoid conflicts with light highlight colors.
  • Ah I see. You're right I'm on PopOS (Ubuntu) and that Cyan does come from the system theme. It seems like the default in the system theme is to make the selected text dark, and it would be great if this behavior also carried over to Zotero like you mentioned:

  • Beautiful, thanks for the super quick fix!
