Zotero Extension saves reference but not PDF

I have tried this in Edge and Firefox.
Installed the Extension, confirmed it is available in the Preferences.
I have selected "Automatically download associated PDFs and other files when saving items" in both the extension and the client.
I have not selected to add a snapshot.
I navigate to a page on Taylor Francis that is displaying the pdf document with an option to download it.
When I hover on the extension it says "Save to Zotero (Embedded Metadata)"
When I click on the extension it shows "Saving to" and allows me to select a collection.
Underneath the drop down it displays the extension icon and the document name.
The document is correctly added to Zotero - but NOT the pdf.
Could someone please help me resolve this?

We always need an example URL for problems with saving, and we'd also want a Debug ID from the Zotero Connector for reloading the page. If you're having trouble saving across many sites, see Troubleshooting Problems Saving to Zotero.

Note that it's not just not saving the PDF — if it says "Embedded Metadata" on T&F, it's not detecting the site properly at all. That could be because the site changed, or it could be because of a problem with your installation.
  • Thanks for your quick reply.
My problem is limited to Taylor & Francis documents that use tandfonline.com reader.
The next time I find an example, I will post it.

  • @dstillman: Here is an example of an OA article: https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/01457632.2023.2255811
The import is working properly from this page.

The corresponding PDF page is: https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/epdf/10.1080/01457632.2023.2255811?needAccess=true
The Zotero Connector is not detecting the site properly.
    Debug ID: D1125559453

Same also for the EPUB page: https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/epub/10.1080/01457632.2023.2255811?needAccess=true

Ah, @AmmerM, if that's what you mean, the answer is just that you should save from the article page, not the reader. It's possible we could support saving from their reader, but there's no guarantee that's technically possible. (We could save metadata based on the DOI in the URL, but the PDF might not be accessible that way.) You should always try to save from the article page rather than from the PDF or some special reader interface on the site.

We've updated the T&F translator to save from PDF and EPUB reader pages. Saving from the EPUB reader page will also attach the EPUB instead of the PDF. (In Zotero 7 we'll be adding a way to choose a preferred format, which will apply when saving from the article page. Currently the article page will always save the PDF.)
