Zotero 7 beta: Shortcut ctrl+M not working

edited May 31, 2024
Hi! Since I installed Zotero 7 beta the shortcut ctrl+M in the "quick format citation" dialog box is not working anymore to show additional elements (page, prefix, suffix...). Was it changed? Is it a bug?
For additional context: OS is Linux Manjaro KDE.
Thanks!

I'm not sure what you're referring to. I don't think Ctrl-M was ever an official shortcut. In Zotero 6, Ctrl/Cmd-Down-Arrow was a shortcut to show the citation-options panel. In Zotero 7, you can just press left-arrow (to focus the bubble) and then down-arrow (without Ctrl/Cmd) to open the panel.
  • Indeed, I don't know where I got the Ctrl+M command from, it's pure mistake on my side. I meant the Ctrl+Down-Arrow shortcut. I tested and it works the way you just described. Was the change intended? Any chance of getting the previous - faster - behaviour back?
  • Yes, the change was intentional — it's part of general improvements to the dialog that make it much more accessible via the keyboard and screen readers.
the previous - faster - behaviour back
I mean, Left-Down isn't really any slower than Ctrl-Down once you're used to it, is it?
  • It's one command more :)
I mean, if it benefits other areas and possible uses, nothing against it, I can get used to it too.
  • It's one command more
But it's two keys on the keyboard either way…
  • (I think the main argument would be that it's slightly faster to hit two keys on two sides of the keyboard than two keys next to each other, but I'm not sure that's worth adding back special handling for Ctrl-Down that only has an effect immediately after a bubble is added.)
  • Ah, ok! Now I realise that it works without the need to press Ctrl. It's simply arrow left, arrow down. I thought I'd still need to do Ctrl-Down. Yes, I have to admit that this is nearly the same. I just have to get used to it.
