Android: Linked files

[Split from Available for beta testing: Zotero for Android]

Hi Developers, thanks for your great contributions! I have a small problem regarding the pdf attachments. I can sync the folder containing all my pdfs in my laptop to my Android tablet. However, I cannot link all the pdfs to the zotero items in the Android app conveniently. Is it possible to make the Android app be able to set the local path of pdf attachments like the windows platform?
  • No, the mobile apps only support stored files.
  • OK, it is impossible to link to local files. I do not want to pay for the storage either using webadv. Is there any other approaches except for zotfile.
  • If you can anticipate which linked PDF files you want to use on your Android tablet, you could create a collection called "_Mobile Files"; and then in Zotero desktop, drag items/files you want to use that way into that collection (they will of course remain in their existing collections). Then select them all and use Tools\Manage Attachments\Convert Linked Files To Stored Files.

As long as you have File syncing turned ON (and are under your online file storage quota), those items will then sync online and to the Android app.

When you have finished working with those items*, you would then convert them back to linked files in Zotero desktop, using Zotfile (Zotero v6) or attanger\zotmoov (Zotero v7). And then remove them from the Mobile Files collection.

*you could assign a tag to signify that, or drag them to another collection "_Completed Mobile Files".
  • Thanks for your reply. I found zoo for zotero is possible to use local file path, which just meets my requirement.
