better search

Hi,

I now use zotero for my bibliography (work) and for saving the newspaper articles I want to keep (personal). It is a great tool thanks.

But (there is always one, isn't it?) I would greatly appreciate an advanced searching tool, it is based on mysql so why can't we make some sql request?? For instance I would like to know what are all the different publication types in my database and how many entry of each do I have (having twice the same journal in a bibliography using two different spelling, as abbreviated and full name for instance, does not look very professional).

Thanks.

  • Well, this isn't really a matter of search, but we plan to add additional views to Zotero (publications, creators, etc.) in future releases.

    In the more immediate future, we'll add Publication to the middle pane, so you'll be able to add that column and sort the items list by publication.

    Also, do you know about the existing advanced search tool? Check out the screencast to see how it works: http://www.zotero.org/documentation/advanced_search_screencast

    For example, if you set the first field in the advanced search to "Publication" and then look in the drop down list, you can see variants of the name of a particular journal.
  • @Dan Stillman,
    You're right this is more like request (instead of search). Still, it would be nice to be able to perform read only sql request. Something similar to the timeline (which is great by the way). BTW putting all the field in the middle pane, altogether, would be nice.

    @sybille,
    Haven't thought of it this way, it works, pressing the down arrow on the empty field...

    Thanks.
