Zotero so slow with with pdfs

Please help, I have been having issues with my zotero lagging on my macbook. It really slows down my research. Does anyone know how to fix this?

    1) Does it happen with all PDF files?
    2) Have you tried disabling third-party plugins, if you have any?
    3) Which Zotero version are you using?
