Lost all data after resetting Mozilla defaults

Hi

I suppose I should have thought about this before I did it but last night I reset my desktop back to the original settings as part of resetting what in the Linux OS I use is called the "Kicker" but in common parlance is the toolbar at the bottom of the screen. I follwowed the instructions in the second half of this page
http://www.mepis.org/docs/en/index.php/Kicker

I was under the impression this was mainly a cosmetic exercise - I didn't realise that all my FF cookies, passwords, history and all my calendar data would disappear.

Those I can recover, given time. Far more disastrous is the loss of my entire Zotero files. Hundreds of references and quotations etc. built up since I started my research.

I am hoping against hope that someone will say "Oh that's OK, you've only lost x amount of data - have a look in file/place/somewhere and it'll be there."

I've looked all over the file system and there doesn't appear to be any Zotero files at all, let alone backups. I don't suppose anyone has any ideas?

Context: Debian Linux Mepis 8.0; KDE 3.5.10; FF 3.0.9. Not sure about Zotero as I've lost it!

Thanks in advance
Cliff

  • That page tells you to kill kicker, remove its conf file, and restart kicker. If you followed those instructions precisely, I don't think they should change any of your firefox settings at all. Are you sure you didn't remove other dotfiles/directories in some other way?

You may look to see if you have multiple firefox profiles (directories in ~/.mozilla/firefox).
  • Thanks Dan and noksagt - I must have deleted something else as all I've got is a very recent sqlite file in the location suggested, and only one profile. Thta's the trouble with Linux - it assumes you know what you're doing!
