Zotero 7 beta: High memory usage after running advanced search

This discussion was created from comments split from: Extremely high memory usage in MacOS.
  • Same on my Windows machine.

There is a way I can replicate the issue - run an advanced search.

After a normal start, Zotero is at about 500MB RAM (no docs open) searches in the main interface (including on the "Everything" option) returns results quickly without much movement in the RAM usage - about 100 MB.

Run an advanced search, though, and the RAM count goes way up.

The advanced search takes about 10 mins to return results and RAM remains at 24+GB even after I close the advanced search window.

Closing Zotero completely and restarting it, returns to normal resource usage.

(11th Gen i7, 32Gb RAM and I have about 2000 items in my library)

@Woodae: What search conditions? And what version of Zotero? Can you provide a Debug ID for reproducing this? This certainly isn't universal behavior.
  • @dstillman: Search phrase is "theoretical integration" and is set to look in attachment contents across the whole library.

Zotero version number is 7.0.0-beta.78+5be5ca941 (64-bit)

I didn't get an error from Zotero, but did submit an error report about an hour ago that did have out-of-memory errors in the report - I didn't save the report number...

I just ran the same search to see if I could get it to report an error, but it didn't. If it comes up again, I'll post.

Unless you can reproduce this, I doubt this was due to the advanced search. The search likely just took so long because you were already well out of memory.

To be clear, you don't need to wait for an out-of-memory error — you would just want to look at memory usage while trying to reproduce it.

If you see anything like this again, make sure you can reproduce it with all plugins disabled.

Note that you have to post a Report ID here if you want us to look at it.
