Zotero 7 beta: ctrl+f does not work when keyboard layout is non-English

edited March 1, 2024
Hi, I switch my OS keyboard layouts all the times, and it is mostly Arabic.
I'm used to apps such as browsers understanding ctrl+f (launching search box) regardless of keyboard layout.
But this is not the case for zotero 7 which recognizes ctrl+f and launches the search box only when the keyboard layout is set to English.
Will there be a fix for this?
Thanks!
  • Do you mean that you're pressing the F physical key or the F key in the Arabic layout?

I mean pressing the combination keys ctrl+f on my laptop's physical keyboard.

By layout I mean my OS (Linux Mint & Windows 11) is configured to use two input languages as in the screenshot. I alternate between them using alt+shift.

Edit: sorry forgot to mention this issue only happens in the PDF view, not in the library view.

Same for Hebrew: Ctrl+F is working in My Library, but not in the PDF Reader.

    Zotero 7.0.0-beta.65+b047f3d90 (64-bit)
    Windows 10
  • A few more shortcuts are broken with the Arabic / Hebrew keyboard layouts:
    - Ctrl+A does not work to select all annotations in the Annotations Pane. It just puts some green background on the top buttons:

    - Ctrl+A does not work in the Items Tree to select all.
    - But Ctrl+A works as expected in the edit mode of a text field.
    - With the Arabic keyboard layout, Ctrl+B does not work to change to bold text in a note or annotation.
    - ...
  • The reader part will be fixed in the next update.

Other Zotero parts will be fixed in future.

    Thanks for reporting.
  • Thank you. I confirm that the Ctrl+F is working now in the PDF Reader with the Arabic and Hebrew keyboard.

The Ctrl+A is working also in the Annotations Pane with the Arabic and Hebrew keyboards.
But it is broken now for the French keyboard.

  • @mjthoraval We'll fix it. Thanks for reporting.
