Zotero not visible in Word and not working

When a new Word document is opened, there is an empty space where Zotero would be on the word ribbon. When clicked on it, the Zotero menu appears. However, when clicked on the Zotero menu, it does not work. Went through all the help and advice messages and videos. No use. Does anyone have any idea why this is?
Thanks

Start by deleting Zotero.dotm from your Word Startup folder and making sure the toolbar goes away completely in Word. Then reinstall it from the Cite pane of the Zotero settings.

If that doesn't help, your Normal.dotm file might be corrupt. You could try moving it away temporarily for testing.
  • dstillman, Thanks for your reply. When I delete the Zotero.dotm from startup folder, the toolbar stays the same. It is invisible in the toolbar but when I click in the space the zotero add ins appear. However like before, they do not function. I deleted the original file and replaced it from the fresh download from the webpage. Still no use. Totally lost. Very frustrating.
  • Adomasven, I checked all the macros settings as you suggested. Everything is as it should be. Nothing is out of place, still no functioning Zotero in word.

This just means you didn't actually remove Zotero.dotm from your active Word Startup folder. But I realized I linked to the wrong documentation before — sorry. This is the relevant section:

    https://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_plugin_manual_installation#locating_your_word_startup_folder

Note the paragraph that beings "If changes you make to the Startup folder aren't taking effect…" — you'll want to find your active Word Startup folder, delete Zotero.dotm from there, and also reset it to the default location so this doesn't happen in the future.

  • dstillman, Thanks for your help. My word start up path was wrong. Finally resolved following your advice. Many thanks. Reddy.
