My Attachments Are Not Saving

I recently upgraded my Zotero storage capacity after my computer suffered multiple issues that required me to re-install several times. However, only new files are saved - when I add back attachments to my existing entries, with all of their notes, these attachments do not appear to be saved, even when I press "sync" to prompt syncing manually. I was wondering, what am I doing wrong?
  • I'm not sure what you mean here. Can you provide Steps to Reproduce?
  • I have a library, but many of the attachments weren't saved when I switched computers because I didn't have storage. So now, all of these entries have a faded attachment icon, and I go through them and "locate" the file to reattach the PDF so that I can open the PDF in Zotero and see all my notes and markings.
Double-click the item -> the attached prompt appears -> I locate the file in my local file bank -> now the icon is back to showing an attachment, and I can view the PDF and all the notes in Zotero.
However, the entries I do this for do not upload to the storage. Only new entries (adding a completely new file to Zotero) get uploaded with the attachment. The old files that I am re-adding remain greyed out, and when I switch computers, I have to re-upload them again instead of the files being stored, even though I have plenty of storage available.

  • Ah, got it. It’s possible we’re not properly marking the file for upload after Locate is used. If you use Reset File Sync History from the Sync → Reset pane of the Zotero settings on the computer where you relocated the files, does that cause them to be uploaded? (Don’t use other reset options.)
  • Yes, that worked! Thank you very much!
  • OK, great. We'll fix Locate to flag files for upload.
