Word plugin for Mac not compatible

Hi everyone!
I have been using zotero for a long time on my Mac and used the word processor (for word 2004) and recently upgraded to the latest versions. I did upgraded also the word plug-in, installing all the necessary things as in the installation page. (http://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_plugin_installation#word_processor_plugins_for_zotero_2.0_beta)

However, it seems something goes wrong. If I try to add a reference in the word page a message saying that the versions are not compatible appears. Even though I download the latest version, the message report incompatibility with the previous version (1.0b3).
Then, in my add ons page, I went to the preference panel of the 3.0a6 integrator forMac add on, click the reinstall word components but another warning message came out:
can't make <<class cfol>> "Microsoft Office 2004" of <<classcfol>> "Applications" of <<class sdsk>> of application "Finder" into the expected type

Maybe the problems rely on the fact that I do not have en English version of Microsoft word?

Does anyone know how I could fix it?

thank you so much,
vdm
  • What's the path to your Office 2004 folder? Not /Applications/Microsoft Office 2004?

yes, it is that: /Applications/Microsoft Office 2004. But I did change the storage location folder, choosing a custom one. May this be the problem?
  • no, it's not the storage folder - the two things are unconnected. But for the actual problem Simon will prob. have to take a look.
  • thank you so much! I'll be waiting for news then!
  • Try installing the MacWord trunk plug-in and let us know if it works.

Simon, thanks so much for your reply!
Unfortunately I have no good news. I did install the MacWorld trunk plug-in but the same messages appear both when I go to the preference panel of the 3.0a6 integrator forMac add on and click the reinstall word components & when I open a word doc and try to add a reference.

ps: I went to the firefox add on panel, to check if there were any preference to set regarding the plug in that you just suggested me to install. However, I haven't found it in the add ons list.

what could I do? I tried to downgrade but I have not been able to.

    Is your Mac Intel based?
if so: with the file highlighted Click info. or keyboard "command I"
    Click on run with roestta
If you have Snow Leopard & Office for Mac 2008 I'm not sure if the new Cocoa language in Snow Leopard will cause a conflict.

[removed lots of irrelevant copy-and-pasted information involving AppleTalk and other things – D.S.]
  • Turn off caps-lock, please.

Office 2004 is PPC-only, so it runs in Rosetta anyway on Intel systems.
  • will it run with Snow Leopard & Office for Mac 2008
  • when i try it I get a message that I must install python

Yes. Zotero does not and has never used AppleTalk. Did you follow the installation instructions?
  • it works beautifully in firefox
  • vdm21, I've made some changes to the trunk plug-in that should fix the issues you were having. Let me know if things work out for you.
  • Dear Simon ,
Thank you 4 the changes in the trunk plug in line.
    It still didn't work.
Then I uninstalled everything and reinstalled. But I did it in the opposite chronological that one would typically follow. That seemed to work I don't know why.

    thank you.

    Hi all,

sorry for the late reply! Simon, thanks so much for the new trunk plug-in! Now it works also on my computer (it's and intel base indeed).
One thing only, the toolbar appear just if I open the zotero.doc file stored in the zotero folder, when I open a "normal" word document the toolbar simply don't appear. I reinstalled everything how Greggdarby did but haven't been succesfull yet.

Thank you all very much again,
    v:)
  • Version 3.0a7 of the MacWord plugin is now available. If you're using the trunk MacWord plugin, you should switch over to the official version now.
