Zoterobib - Gale Links

edited February 22, 2024
Most students at my institution would have all the functionality they need just using the web-based Zoterobib. However, we cannot get links from Gale databases to work with Zoterobib. Does anyone know how to make the Gale links work? Thanks!
  • Gale is all gated, right? That's not going to work with ZoteroBib. ZoteroBib requests come from our servers, so it will only work with non-gated resources.

The Zotero Connector can save directly to the web library, so that might be an option for you.
  • I use Zoterobib with all of our other subscription databases without issue (EBSCO, ProQuest, etc.). I have the connector set up and that does not make the links work. Is there more information about the connector somewhere? Maybe I don't have settings on it set up correctly.

No, again, ZoteroBib requests come from our servers, so by definition it can't work with URLs that aren't publicly accessible. Some subscription databases still have public pages for resources without making the full-text content available. For some gated sites, a URL might contain a session id that would work for a few minutes, but that's not something you should really count on. You can post an example URL if you want us to look at something.

The Zotero Connector doesn't have anything to do with ZoteroBib. It works with Zotero, either the desktop app or the online library. Since the Zotero Connector is a browser extension, it sees the content you see in your browser, including any resources that aren't publicly available.
