Word plugin dissapeared in Zotero

Hey all,

I've been working with the Zotero word plugin and everything was fine until last monday. The problem is not on the Word-end but with Zotero, it doesn't show the word plugin in "add ons". I can download and work with other add-ons (in zotero) but neither of the word-processor plugins show up (still on zotero 6). I've restarted the computer and reinstalled Zotero but it doesn't work. I tried settings/cite and opened the Word Processors tab but there it only shows the check box. I deleted extensions.json and restated zotero. the third party plugins are still working but still no word processor plugin.
Strange enough, within Word the zotero plugin is still visible (zotero.dotm is present and all). If I try to use it it shows "zotero-integration error, Zotero could not load the component required to communicate with your word processor. Go to Tools → Add-ons → Extensions in Zotero and make sure that the extension for your word processor is enabled."

Is there a way to manually install the word plugin in zotero?

Thanks for any ideas!
  • You should try reinstalling Zotero. Your data won't be affected.

If that doesn't help, try deleting both extensions.json and the extensions folder in your Zotero profile directory.
  • Both things didn't work, only the third party plugins are gone now too
  • You can try creating a new Zotero profile. If that points to a new, empty Zotero data directory (which it's supposed to by default), you can configure that to point to your existing data directory. Assuming a new profile fixes it, we could try to figure out what in your old profile is breaking this, but you could also just delete the old profile and stick to the new profile.
  • This worked! Can I connect this new Profile with my account to sync it or would I need to delete the old one ?
  • Assuming the new profile is pointing to your original data directory (so you don't end up with duplicate data directories), you can just set up syncing and use that one going forward, yes. To avoid future confusion, you should return to the profile manager and delete the old profile. And if the new profile did create a new, empty data directory (e.g., "Zotero Test" or whatever you called the new profile), it would be good to delete that folder as well.
  • Thank you for your help!
