Quote / Paraphrase integration with notes & Word plugin.

It seems like notes should be extended to have the following:

1) a description / title
2) a flag designating it as a (Note | Paraphrase | Quote | Summary)
3) a page number field

You should then be able to go to Word (or Open Office), go about your writing, get to a place where you want to include a quote (paraphrase / summary /etc), go to the plugin, find the item you want, find the quote you want (based on the description, which would provide a place to sum the quote without placing text in the actual quote itself, thus making it easier to find if you have a huge number of notes, quotes, and paraphrases for a given item), then insert the quote. The plugin should insert not only the text you want, but also the appropriate citation complete with page number.

I realize that I could just flip to Zotero, find the item I want, find the note I want, copy the quote I want, jot down the page number I've annotated in the note, paste the quote into my document, pull up the plugin, and insert the appropriate citation. It just seems like the process should be more integrated.

  • bdarcus,

Thanks for the quick reply. I've searched around quite a bit. I went back after reading your suggestion to search the forums and found this:

    [10/2008] http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/867/notetaking-capabilities-and-request-for-recommendations/

    I also found this:

    [2006] http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/210/

These discussions both took place a while ago. Has anyone heard if this kind of functionality is anything close to being considered by the dev team?

One simple enhancement here would be the ability to easily apply the html blockquote tag (with suitable default styling). Just another option in the styles dropdown.

    jpoveda, some workarounds:

    * title: first line of the note

    * quote/paraphrase/etc.: use tags on the individual note (never thought of that, I might start doing that myself)

    * page number: adopt a standard notation like [99-100] or @99-100
