[Split from Zotero not working in Google Docs]

Wondering why my comment was deleted. I have been a zotero user for years and have noticed increasing instability and bugs to the point where it's almost becoming unusable to me. An admin responded to my comment and then deleted it. Their response said that it was a google issue, and not zotero's fault, but it seems to be an issue with an update to zotero connector. I tried the work arounds and am still having problems in Firefox. Please don't censor this comment. Thank you.
  • We're in the middle of communicating to people about a fix we've rolled out for a critical issue. Your posting to that thread complaining about unrelated bugs you've experienced in Zotero — after we had already explained that 1) this was a change on Google's end and 2) we've already rolled out a fix — is just off-topic and inappropriate, and it makes it harder for people to find the relevant info on this issue. And leaving a 1-star review about the Zotero Connector for a bug outside our control that we've already released a fix for is just bizarre.

Though it's actually not even clear to me that you're referring to the issue that the thread was about. What exactly is the problem that you're experiencing?

Again, the problem in the original thread — about the Google Docs link dialog popping up when trying to use the plugin — was due a change to the Google Docs interface that they're testing on a subset of users. We needed to update the Zotero Connector to account for that change. As we said before you even posted, that update is available for Firefox now and will be available for Chrome and Edge once Google and Microsoft approve it.

If you're experiencing some other problem, you need to actually explain what that is.

You also refer to ongoing problems with Zotero, but this is your first time posting to the Zotero Forums. If you're experiencing problems, you should actually report them here so that we can help you.

Beyond this specific issue, if you're working on a dissertation-length document, I would strongly recommend either not using Google Docs or breaking the document up into multiple chapters. Because Google Docs integration needs to interact with Google servers, it's more susceptible to problems outside of our control than the Word and LibreOffice plugins.
  • Just because I don’t post in the forums doesn’t mean I haven’t used them for trouble shooting over the years. I’ve noticed even in word Zotero has been more unstable. As for the length of my dissertation, it’s broken up into 4 separate documents so it shouldn’t be too much to handle. If it is, the zotero is really not made for professional use with Google. Your commentary is unnecessary. My review remains one star due to
Ongoing issues including the most recent one where it seems people have been left scrambling for alternatives including making private documents public. Frankly I find that bizarre and a serious issue.

Again, I don't even know what the problem is that you're experiencing. We literally have no way of helping you as it is.

The way to get help in these forums is by posting and asking questions. You'll get direct answers from developers and other experts.

Your repeated insistence that we're somehow responsible for a change to the Google Docs interface (that also broke other tools) is just really strange. We had a fix available within a day. We suggested a workaround in the meantime using a share link, which no one would have unless you gave it to them. What exactly would you like us to have done differently here?

Again, though, I don't even know if this is the issue you're referring to.

I genuinely don't know what you're trying to accomplish here. If you want our help, ask for our help and provide the information we need to help you. Otherwise, there's no point in posting here.
