Impossibly slow adding citation on Chrome Google doc

I have been using Zotero fine with google docs but as of yesterday it is not able to add any citations. I type it in but then it is endlessly stuck on updating with the green progress bar.
I have tried shutting the document, restarting my computer, uninstalling and reinstalling the connector but still no help. Zotero alerted me that it was taking a long time to update and offered to turn off automatic updates which I did but it didn't fix the issue.
The process is using around 960mB (28% of my memory) which feels like a lot?

When I tried making a copy it tells me that the citations are being edited by another Zotero user and to try again later?????
Help!!!
  • Also it seems to have multiplied my Bibliography a million times over!
  • You should remove all instances of the bibliography duplicates from your document and reinsert another bibliography again from Zotero -> Add/Edit bibliography. If you get a dialog about the document being edited by another user, use the "More Info" button and override the lock. Did you do anything unusual with this document before that happened?
  • Yes I have done both of these and have managed to get it to function by downloading a copy into Word. I didn't do anything unusual in the document before it happened but I did try loads of times to fix it so I am wondering if each time I tried to delete and re-enter a citation it was duplicating the bibliography in the background.
I have had this issue before in google docs but last time it only gave me 1-2 copies not 160!
  • This isn't a common issue, but we've had an uptick of people asking about it, but are unable to reproduce it ourselves. If you see this again and figure out what causes it, please let us know.
