Problem with "The Chicago Manual of Style, Seventeenth Edition (2017)"

Hi, i have to use The Chicago Manual of Style, Seventeenth Edition (2017) for my article in Qualitative research methods in sport, exercise and health journal.

Normally, when I select this style (author-date), I should only have the author(s) + date in the quote. However, when I enter a citation in my document using Zotero, it shows me the whole citation. Here is an example:

I need to cite with this style and it should give me : Lupo et al, 2015.

However, when I enter the Zotero citation in my text, it shows this as the citation: ("Lupo C, Guidotti F, Goncalves CE, Moreira L, Doupona Topic M, Bellardini H, Tonkonogi M, Colin A, Capranica L. Motivation towards dual career of European student-athletes. Eur J Sport Sci. 2015;15(2):151-60. doi: 10.1080/17461391.2014.940557. Epub 2014 Aug 22. PMID: 25145585.", n. d.)

What I don't understand is that the style overview with The Chicago Manual of Style, Seventeenth Edition (2017) (author - date) does show when quoting the name + date, and not the rest.

Could you help me? Has this happened to you before?

Thanks in advance

How this item looks like in your library? I can reproduce what you see when the whole information you see in your document is entered as a title, with all other fields empty.
  • Hello,

Here is the information that is on "my library" and indicated as a journal article:

Lupo C, Guidotti F, Goncalves CE, Moreira L, Doupona Topic M, Bellardini H, Tonkonogi M, Colin A, Capranica L. Motivation towards dual career of European student-athletes. Eur J Sport Sci. 2015;15(2):151-60. doi: 10.1080/17461391.2014.940557. Epub 2014 Aug 22. PMID: 25145585.

    Thanks in advance.
  • Are you sure that you have the author-date set under Document Preferences in the Zotero tab in Word? It looks like you have the full-note style selected.
  • Here is the information that is on "my library" and indicated as a journal article:
So you can confirm that you have:
Title = Motivation towards Dual Career of European Student-Athletes
    Item Type = Journal Article
Author = Lupo, Corrado (Two Field) or Corrado Lupo (Single Field)
Author = Guidotti, Flavia (Two Field) or Flavia Guidotti (Single Field)

    And so on?
  • Yes, I did select author-date. And indeed, when I look at the preview, I can see that the two are similar (see attached picture).

The problem must be in the coding, no?

  • This really looks like the information are not correctly entered in your library. Again, what do you see in your library?
  • I've just realised my mistake. You were right, in my library, everything was in the "title" section. Now that I've detailed everything in the "library" section (date, DOI, authors, etc.), everything works! Thank you so much!
  • You should try to figure out how this situation happened.
