Chicago Manual 17th edition- want author's name and book name in subsequent citations
In Zotero while using chicago manual 17th edition full note style, the author name and book name are not cited in footnotes when I cite the same book second time or third time (subsequent times). I want author's name and book name every time when i cite. how to get that ? how to edit the csl file to get this done?
The first issue is that when I cite a book for the second time, the complete details of the book do not appear. For instance, the first footnote looks like this:
William A. Jurgens, The Faith of the Early Fathers (Bangalore: Theological Publication in India, 1984), 2.
However, the second footnote, immediately following the first, looks like either this:
Jurgens, 5. (second name and page number)
or simply as:
5. (It implies that page number is 5)
What I desire is to include both the author's name and the book's title. For example:
Jurgens, The Faith of the Early Fathers, 5
The second challenge involves quotation marks along with article names. In Zotero, using English UK, the article names are enclosed in single quotation marks, as seen in the example:
Samuel R. Wiley, 'The Reform of Law in the Light of Social Changes', Philippine Studies 12, no. 4 (1964): 572.
However, I prefer the use of double quotation marks, like this:
Samuel R. Wiley, “The Reform of Canon Law in the Light of Vatican II,” Philippine Studies 12, no. 4 (1964): 572.
Switching to English US resolves the quotation mark issue, but then the date format changes to mm dd, yy (March 20, 2023), whereas I prefer the format dd mm yy (20 March 2023).
For the second issue, you would indeed need to edit the citation style, adding either the UK date to the US locale or US quotation marks to the GB locale.
You can find the full locale files here: https://github.com/citation-style-language/locales
and should be able to copy & paste the relevant bits into the locale section of the style.
https://www.zotero.org/support/dev/citation_styles/style_editing_step-by-step has general instructions. I wouldn't recommend the visual editor for this type of edit thought it's technically possible.
