Searching
Hi all,
I guess this is more of a 'workflow' or 'best practices' kind of question than a technical question. I teach incoming students how to use Zotero and one of the challenges I see students have is searching for specific notes they want to insert into their writing. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but if I'm understanding correctly, when you search for specific note from the Insert Note option your search is a full text search of all your notes. That is, their isn't a way to limit my search to tags, or title or etc. You can do advance searching from Zotero but this advance searching which works quite well. But advance searching when I'm in word or google docs isn't possible.
Has anyone come up with a way of doing more targeted searching? One technique that I'm playing around with is inserting a unique keyword in the note which could possibly limit my search results.
Thanks in advance
m

Matthew-huI have used the unique word approach, and though it works, it is easy to forget and lose track of what is what. Since the title is just the first line of the note, there is no separate title field, so perhaps a separate tag search would be the easiest approach. I think that would help.

adamsmithSee https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/111073/available-for-beta-testing-faster-citing-of-selected-and-open-items#latest -- that'd seem to solve your issue -- doesn't currently work for notes but will in the feature as per the discussion at the bottom of the thread

miesmartThanks @adamsmith. Will definitely play with this. Look forward to teaching this new function to students and faculty when 7 goes live.
