Red search bar remains red and can't type in box

When I click on 'Zotero' connector in Google Docs, and click Add/Edit Citation (with Zotero app open and running in the background), the red search bar remains red and I can't type anything into the box. It also sends me to a Zotero webpage to authenticate. So, I authenticate using my Zotero account login and nothing changes. Please help!

What browser are you using?
Restart your browser and try again, and make sure the citation dialog isn't just appear behind your other windows. That's the most likely situation. The citation dialog window is part of the Zotero app.
If you're sure it's not that, try disabling all your browser extensions (particularly Google Docs Offline) and reload Google Docs, and then try again.
I'm using Safari. When you say "citation dialog window" are you referring to the red search bar? If so, it is very much present and has no white space to type text.
I have uninstalled Zotero, reinstalled it. Same problem. I have signed out of Google Docs and signed back in. Same problem. The only extension I have enabled in Google Docs is Zotero.
