Rename linked file to whatever I want

I often have Zotero items with linked pdf files as attachments.
Is there any way of renaming the linked file to whatever I want, from within Zotero?
The closest to this I found is:
1. Right click -> Rename File from Parent Metadata.
But this does not allow for arbitrary name.
2. Right click -> Show file.
But if I rename the file here (which is pure OS), the link in Zotero is not replicated, and thus lost.

    Click on the attachment item, click on the title in right-hand pane, and make sure that "Rename associated file" is checked.

    (Currently this will change the attachment title too, but in Zotero 7 you'll be able to just rename the file independently.)

    If there are multiple attachments associated with one item, can I also change which is the 'default' attachment (which is opened when double-clicking the item row in Zotero, not when clicking a specific attachment row)? Renaming doesn't seem to matter as I had supposed.
