WebDav Sync SEC_ERROR_UNKNOWN_ISSUER error on a server with self-signed cert

Hello, I've a fully functional WebDav server running on bare metal under Debian. The certificate is self-signed. I followed the instructions given on "Overriding Security Certificate Errors in Zotero".

I downloaded Firefox 60 ESR and copied the cert_ovveride.txt file to Zotero's profile folder. It has, as far as I can tell, the right format (with the U at the end). But I still always get a SEC_ERROR_UNKNOWN_ISSUER.

I wasn't getting such an error on a previous version of Zotero (6 something).

Zotero is 6.0.30 on MacOS 10.13. Debug ID : D1131192396
  • Nothing would've changed, so the instructions should work, but if you're having trouble you should try with the Zotero 7 beta.
  • It works indeed. One should use Firefox 60.0 ESR (I mistakenly used 60.9 ESR in the first place). Thanks for the kind answer.

I considered switching to Zotero 7 Beta. Unfortunately I am stuck with the very outdated MacOS 10.13, whereas the new Zotero requires MacOS 12+.

I really wonder where the string starting with AAAA... comes from. If any one knows...

  • No, 60.9 ESR is fine. That's what Zotero 6 is based on.

No, Zotero 7 requires 10.12 or later — Sierra, not Monterey.
  • It seems I misread 12 for 10.12. Good news. Thanks. (Indeed, Zotero 7 runs on MacOS 10.13. The minimum system version is even given as 10.9.0 in the Info.plist).

As for 60.9 ESR, interestingly it didn't created the whole entry (with the AAAA... after MU) but 60.0 ESR did. I tried a couple of times and could never get it to work. With 60.0, it worked on the first shot. Just saying in case anyone should face the same issue in the future.
