Error has occured while using extension on Safari

Report ID: 510983713

Hello, an error has occured while I tried to add/edit citation on Google Docs on Safari.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Start Zotero
2. Click on Zotero extension on Google Docs toolbar, and select "Add/edit citation"
3. The notification about the Zotero was updating my document has shown and redirected to a new Safari page to confirm my login with Zotero Connector.
4. After I login to my account, the Safari page showed this information "Connector Authorization Complete. You have authenticated successfully. This page should close automatically. If it does not, please generate a report ID and post on the Zotero forums."
5. The Google docs page is in loading mode and still showing "Zotero is updating your document. Please wait..." for quite long time.
6. I've tried to reload the Google Docs page, the "Zotero is updating your document. Please wait..." disappeared, but the "red search bar" on Zotero was not working and I don't know how to fix this issue. I'm expecting I can fix this issue and using the search bar to add/edit citation on Google docs on Safari browser.
  • What version of Safari and macOS are you using? Could you create a new macOS user account and check if the same behavior occurs there?
  • I'm using Safari Version 17.2 (19617.1.17.11.9), and macOS Sonoma 14.2, along with Zotero 6.0.30. I tried to check it with different user account and it worked fine. Then I got back to my actual account and it still didn't work. After that, I checked back on that different user account and it got the same error too.
  • Did you have to do anything specific in the new user before it stopped working? Signing in into any applications, or configuring something?
  • Before it stopped working, I was updating the macOS. But, I didn't do anything on another user account, except for logging in into Zotero and Google account.

After I replied yesterday, it's also not working on Ms Words and Google Docs on Chrome. Later on, I also got another update for macOS yesterday. Then it's working on Chrome only.

However, today I've checked the "Settings" on Safari and tried to changed few things. I un-checked the "Hide IP address from trackers" and finally now it's working again. I'm sharing this in case anyone could find it helpful.

Also thank you for checking up on the situation I have so I could also figure it out to re-check everything.
  • It's very unlikely that that setting affected this. Unless you can reproduce this breaking with that on and working again with it off, it wasn't related. And that certainly wouldn't have anything to do with Word, which doesn't use the internet or Safari at all.
  • I reproduced those stuff today, and yes, it worked well even when "Hide IP address" was being enabled. So maybe it was about the macOS update. I'm not sure tho. But now everything is fine.
