automatic file importing -- disabling it is NOT working
I am a librarian working with a student who is using Firefox on a Mac laptop. We are trying to export database results in a RIS file to the downloads folder on the laptop.
We went to the Connector settings by control-clicking (right-clicking) on the connector icon and deselecting "Automatic File Importing" as detailed in https://www.zotero.org/support/connector_preferences.
However, even when Zotero is closed, and the setting is disabled in the Connector, Zotero still intercepts and imports our RIS exports from databases (such as CINAHL).
Does anyone have any suggestions to fix this? Thank you!

adamsmithis it actually intercepted by the Zotero connector, i.e. are you seeing a pop-up in the browser asking whether you want to import in Zotero, or is the Zotero app just opening RIS files (which is set via the file associations in your operating system).

dstillmanedited December 12, 2023Yeah, this wouldn't have anything to do with the Zotero Connector — the interception feature is only active when the Zotero app is open, and even when enabled it prompts whether you actually want to import (so there's no reason to disable it). It just sounds like Firefox has been set to automatically open RIS files rather than download them, and Zotero is the default program for that. They can change that from the Applications section of the Firefox settings — look for "application/x-research-info-systems".

lucas.hallThank you, adamsmith and dstillman, for your prompt replies! We'll work on Firefox settings and get back to you here if something's still not working right.
