Quotes are corrupted

Hello,
Instead of my footnotes, I see this on my Word file:

I do not know what to do. I clicked on "yes, delete the corrupted references", then "no" because I was stressing out.
I have multiple saves of my file but I think I need this version too...

Thanks a lot in advance if you can help me.
  • That's not corruption — it's just a Word display setting.

    https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/word_field_codes
  • Ok, thanks a lot. But “Show field codes instead of their values” was already unchecked...
  • Did you try Alt/Option-F9 (or Option-Fn-F9 on a Mac)?
  • It's possible your document was also corrupted somehow. Zotero citations are standard Word fields, which is why the advice is just to use the Word setting to toggle them, but if your document was actually corrupted — which usually happens by saving in some incorrect format — I'm afraid restoring from a backup or replacing any corrupted citations may be your only option.

If you change the citation style in the plugin's Document Preferences window to an author-date style such as APA and the footnotes (displayed as code or not) don't change to in-text citations, they're no longer active Zotero citations.
  • Okay, I understand, thanks a lot for your help.
