Style request: [Journal of Urology]
Hi,
The Journal of Urology (JU) style is very similar to the American Medical Association (AMA) style.
Style guide (~halfway down the page, under "References" heading: http://www.jurology.org/authorinfo
They don't give much info in the style guide, or examples. Here's a free access link to a current article with extensive references, if that is helpful:
http://download.journals.elsevierhealth.com/pdfs/journals/0022-5347/PIIS0022534709017285.pdf
Style differences:
Citation: same as AMA style (superscript in text)
Bibliography--Journal article differences: JU style has no italicized journal names; volume number is in bold type; issue# removed; page reference is the beginning page only.
Reference from an edited book differences:
Only 3 authors listed prior to "et al."; Then after the chapter title in the AMA style, JU changes the order of information quite a bit:
the book title.
edition number.
"Edited by" name and initials (same style as AMA) of 1st three editors. (subsequent editors "et al.")
city ":" (no state, as there appears in AMA style)
publisher
volume #
chapter number
page range
year.
Although in the example article linked above, the edited book references have the year and page range transposed:
Russo P: Open radical nephrectomy for localized
renal cell carcinoma. In: Comprehensive Textbook
of Genitourinary Oncology. Edited by NJ Vogelzang.
Philadelphia: Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins
2006; pp 725–731.
The style guide doesn't say much about references for digital material, although for items retrieved on-line, the brackets around the accession date in the AMA style should be removed.
Thank you!

The current features are currently not possible:
1. Display only the first page of the page range in journal articles
2. Get journal abbreviations from a specficic lists or strip periods - Zotero takes whatever is in the respective field.
3. Don't display the state: Zotero displays whatever is in the place field.
For chapters I followed the reference in the published article - it seemed more plausible.
I notice that when I edit a reference in a zotero-created bibliography in MS Word (i.e. to remove the ending page in a page range), when I refresh zotero, the original format is back. Is there a way around this?
It's possible to create more conditions (e.g. never display for books and book chapters), but not an individual display/don't display option for the user.
Which non-online sources do you have that display URLs?
You can modify the bibiliography using the "Edit Bibliography" buitton, then select the item in question and select "Show Editor".
Note that you should do that as late as possible in the process - items thus modified will not refresh anymore. That includes corrections in both the citation style and the item's bibliographic information.
for instance,
"diabetes, and renal failure.123" should be "...failure.1-3"
and "...reported series.1314" should be "...reported series.13,14"
The hypenation of 3 or more references is present in the original AMA style; the double references separated by commas is a differences that I hadn't found previously--sorry.
Can you check how this looks like in the preview panel:
chrome://zotero/content/tools/csledit.xul
(select Journal of Urology on the top right and a couple of references from your library)
You won't see the superscript, but the 1,2 an 1-3 should look right. I've checked both there and using the plugin that this works correctly, if you're sure that you have the most recent version of the style, try some other similar styles to get a sense of the problem and post it on a separate thread (you obviously need to use the "multiple sources" function in the word plugin for this to work correctly, simple citing single sources right after each other won't do).
