Elsevier databases and Zotero

I've been having a problem logging in to ScienceDirect and Scopus on Chrome through my university login. The problem only affects Chrome, not Chrome incognito, not Firefox and not Edge.
I was confused because none of my colleagues were experiencing the same issue. I just tried turning off the Zotero browser extendion and it solved the issue.
Is this a problem people are aware of?
  • What exactly happens when you try to access those sites?

Right-click on the Save to Zotero button, select Options, go to the Proxies tab, and look at the proxy entries. If you have one for an old proxy (e.g., from a previous institution, or an proxy server for your current institution), you should delete it.

If you're not seeing anything obviously incorrect, go to the Advanced tab, click Config Editor, copy the proxies.proxies field (you can double-click it to open the dialog box if the full value is truncated), and send it to support@zotero.org with a link to this thread.
  • Thanks for this. I won't be able to check until Monday but I will get back to you then.
  • Thanks, I deleted the proxy for my current institution and that seemed to work.
  • To be clear, you shouldn't need to remove the proxy entry altogether — proxy redirection is a useful feature that helps you access gated resources. It should auto-detect the proxy again, and if the problem recurs, you should do what I suggest above so we can debug it properly.
  • @wmmurphy42: And what's the exact problem when this occurs? Can you provide a Debug ID from the Zotero Connector for reproducing it?
