can't use primary selection in built-in PDF viewer [zotero6]

Under the X Window System, primary selection could copy text quickly besides clipboard. But the new built-in PDF viewer does not support primary selection on Linux. Would zotero support it in the future?

The primary selection:

  • Same here. In great need of this feature.
  • Could you check if this issue still persists in the Zotero 7 beta?
  • This doesn't work for me with version 7.0.0-beta.51+7c5600913.
  • +1 for making the Linux primary selection work all over Zotero, not only in PDFs. Especially copying from Zotero should work (pasting can be tricked using additional other programs)
  • I can confirm this problem still exists with Zotero 7.0.11 under KDE Plasma 6.2.4 and Wayland.

Indeed, it's not a critical issue, but sometimes it can be very annoying.
  • Zotero 7.0.7 with X11 and Gnome. Selecting PDF text does not fill the primary selection. Other text fields in Zotero seem to be working fine.

Did someone find an alternative way to access selected text in PDF?
  • @martynas_b Hello. The issue still persists in Zotero Desktop 7.0.30 with Wayland and Gnome. The problem seems to be specific for PDF files (EPUB for example works normally).

Issue summary: Selecting text in PDF does not update the system primary selection.
    - using the same PDF file in Evince, Okular, Firefox, or Chromium does not reproduce the issue
    - text is there and available, it can be accessed with Ctrl+C for example
  • Interestingly, using the Alt key triggers the primary selection.
  • Alt + select works, thank you @poettli for this nice workaround. I hope a proper fix for this issue can be discovered in the future.
