When I use word to insert references, the writing speed is very slow.

I use zotero6, a Mac computer, and the computer system is macOS 14.1.1. I write my dissertation on Microsoft Word. I have written about 38,000 words now and inserted about 200 references. Now when inserting the index, the writing speed is very slow. After selecting the document to be inserted, it takes about 5 minutes to complete the writing of the index and references. I also use zotero7, but it is still very slow. What is the reason?

I took a closer look today, and it seems that every time I add an index, zotero will rewrite all existing references. Is there something wrong with my settings?

In a large document, make sure "Automatically update citations" is disabled in the plugin's Document Preferences window.

(but Word for Mac is going to be slow in large documents even with that setting. If at all possible, you should split up your document while you're working on it)
