How to cite a periodical with two dates

I have a really strange periodical which often published with two dates. For example, one issue could be dated "15 February and 01 March, 1897." When I put this in the date field in Zotero, it comes out in the citation as 15 March 1897. How can I get it to show the entire date correctly?

What citation style are you using?

When you see citations to articles from that journal, how do they appear in the reference list?

It is common for contemporary journals to have double (or even triple) issues. This is expressed by issue numbers (2/3 or 2-3). Are the issues not numbered? Do you have concern that too much will be lost if the date is limited to the year of publication?
  • You can input date ranges into the Extra field as
    Issued: 1897-02-15/1897-03-01
but that gives you a range, not two dates with and. For that (to the extent that it really makes sense giving that as a date, because it's unclear what it means), I'd use the issue field, perhaps?
  • I'm using Chicago. You can see how the date is laid out on the magazine here: https://contentdm.lib.byu.edu/digital/collection/WomansExp/id/18639/rec/571

No matter how I format the two dates when I enter in the 'Date' field, it always comes out wrong in the citation. But using the 'Issued' field worked! It's ok that it looks like a range, I think.

    Thanks!
