Updating linked files

Hope this isn't a dumb question. I have over 200 files linked and was wondering. If I import my files and folders again will I have duplicate files or will it add the new ones and delete the files that have been deleted from the hard drive?

I love the add-in that allows me to link files and folders!

Thank you
  • I don't quite understand in what context and how you would reimport
  • Thought this was confusing.

I have linked over 600 files and folders.
I have deleted some files on my hard drive.

What happens if I do the import again? Does the program add the new files and delete the ones that were deleted?
  • Again, though, what is "the import" in this case? Are you importing an RIS file? A Mendeley library? Dragging PDFs to Zotero? Something else?

The basic answer is that Mendeley import is the only option that has a concept of what you already import. All other forms will duplicate all information that you import and that's already in your library.

  • I understand now. I am using the "Add-on" option "Add files from folders". So if this is an add-on, the software isn't the problem, it's the Add-on.

  • oh, yeah, please mention using an add-on. You'd have to ask the developer, but I'd be surprised if it had any awareness of what you previously imported, so almost certainly the answer still holds -- you'll duplicate information.

You'll want to do your file management in Zotero once you have the metadata in the app.
