In-text citations unlink when changing referencing styles in word document

edited October 30, 2023
I have a document which was written with Harvard referencing style. However, I need to convert it to Vancouver for a particular purpose. When I change the style in the 'Document Preferences' under the Zotero tab in MS Word, it changes my end-of-text references but does not update the in-text reference, and instead just unlinks them all from Zotero.
Any thoughts on how I can fix this?
Thanks.
  • If you put word cursor in those citations that get unlinked and press Add/Edit Citation in the Zotero tab do you get a citation dialog that is empty, or with those citations?
  • The field is empty, as if there is no reference (although the end of text reference are still there).
  • That citation and whatever other citations that do not automatically convert to Vancouver are unlinked. See Existing Citations Not Detected. If it's only a few citations it might be easiest to reinsert them manually. They most likely appear in the bibliography because you've cited the same item in multiple places, and some of those citations are still linked.
