bug report: Zotero 7 scaling error in win 11

I use 125% screen scaling on Windows 11, and when I annotate a pdf in zotero, the highlighted parts of the text drift.
When I change the screen size to 100%, this problem does not occur. But that doesn't happen with zotero 6.
Is this a bug in the new version or my problem?

System version information: Win11 version 22621.2428, 7.0.0-beta.47+f012a348a (64-bit)
  • Can you share the PDF in question? I'm using Zotero 7 since August on either 175 % or 125 % and haven't seen any annotation problems. I highlighted and annotated around 100 papers.
  • @Tannenfreund 87 Thank you for your reply, I went to do another test, the problem still exists. The problem was more serious when I read the papers in the field of HSI denoising, but when I just tried to read the literature in the field of psychology, the problem became less serious, but it still exists.

I'm not sure if pdf caused it, or if zotero caused it. But I did fix the problem when I changed the zoom

I will share the DOI of the literature with you so that you may be able to test it on your computer. This problem exists in all the literature I read and maybe it could be a problem with my computer (all Microsoft's fault LOL)

    HSI denoising: 10.1109/TIP.2017.2662206 or 10.1109/TNNLS.2020.2978756
    psychology: 10.1037/bul0000363
  • Yes, I can confirm this behavior!

The first 2 papers show this noticeably, the last one only very subtle. I can also replicate that issue in Firefox, Okular and Acrobat Reader show the highlighting following the outside of the text.

The first 2 papers have been produced with pdfTeX, the last one with Adobe Illustrator.
  • @Tannenfreund 87 well, so is this issue due to the beta version not being adapted? I mean, will this issue be fixed in the future?

It seems to be an issue with Firefox and pdf.js, the library used to render the PDFs in Firefox and Zotero. Zotero 7 got its core updated to a recent version of Firefox. You can try filing a bug/issue at the pdf.js project and mozilla bugzilla, but don't have high hopes in the firefox devs to fix that bug soon :-(

If I find time, I can try to file a bug on the weekend. The last pdf-rendering bug I contributed hasn't seen an update in months.
  • Could you make a screenshot demonstrating the issue?
  • @martynas_b I'm more than happy to show this with screenshots, but forums can't send pictures, so how can I show this.
  • upload to a free image sharign site (imgur.com, google drive, etc.) and provide a link here
  • I made 2 comparisons. Top image is 100 %, bottom 125. Left is Zotero, right Acrobat Reader:

    Paper is the following:

  • We've identified the problem and it should be fixed in the next update. Thanks to everyone for the help.
