CONTROL F not working

I have many documents saved as attachments to my Zotero library. For some, especially those I download as PDFs from archive.org, neither the Zotero search function nor Control F works. The search box comes up but tells me phrase not found when I know it is present.
Any solutions please. Many thanks

    Does it work when you open them in a different PDF reader? Might just be poor or no OCR

    Thank you. Yes, it does work if I save as an Adobe pdf outside Zotero. I really want to be able to search and then make notes both in Zotero without having to switch back and forth.
    I haven't made a systematic check but it appears to be documents scanned by Google
