Unreadable text by previously highlighted pdf

Hello everyone,

I recently downloaded a PDF paper that was already highlighted. When I imported it into Zotero, the highlighted text section was completely covered and unreadable, appearing as if it were a picture overlaid on top of it, and there seems to be no way to delete it. This issue does not occur when I import PDFs that I have personally edited from my personal folders into Zotero.

Any ideas? Thank you in advance.
  • But it's different in other PDF readers?

If so, can you email the PDF to support@zotero.org with a link to this thread?
  • Thank you for your response. Yes, with Adobe, I can completely read the text, just like with regular highlighting. The problem only arises when I move the document to Zotero's folder.

No, something's wrong with that file. The highlighted sections are unreadable in macOS Preview, in Safari, in Firefox, in PDF Expert. They show up in Chrome, Edge, and Acrobat. We can see if there's anything we can do, but given that it's unreadable in so many different programs, this seems to be a problem with whatever program did that highlighting.
  • I see, many thanks for your answer
