Can't retrieve metadata from PDFs after upgrading to Mac Sonoma

Hi there,
After installing Sonoma I can't retrieve metadata from pdfs. It gets stuck on "Processing"
If I add a pdf from the Chrome Browser plug in that works fine and using the magic wand to add from a DOI works fine.
But when I click "Link to file" it gets stuck.
The pdf gets listed as an item in Zotero. But even right clicking the item in the Zotero list and asking to retrieve metadata does not work.
Thanks
Randy
  • I am using 7.0.0-beta.46+c27bac2ad
  • Can you restart Zotero and provide a Debug ID for this?

  • On restart with debugging enabled it worked for one article.
So this debug ID might not help.
    Submitted with Debug ID D91137255

But then I tried again, right clicking an article in the Zotero list that has a DOI and it got stuck again. I had to cancel the search for metadata to get this debug info
    D1054819590

    Thanks!

(1)(+0000003): Error: HTTP GET https://doi.org/[…] failed with status code 500
OK, it's just a server error from doi.org for a metadata lookup, not a problem in Zotero or related to Sonoma. I get the same error. Try again in a bit.
  • (And it's stuck on "Processing" because Zotero automatically retries in increasing intervals when it gets a server error, but we should set a maximum time limit here.)
  • Hi there,
The problem continues and seems to be from the v7 beta. On both of my computers I reverted to v6 and the problem went away.
There must be something about how v7 sends the call for information that DOI is not getting correctly.
  • That's unlikely, and no one else has reported this. And a 500 is a server error — it's by definition not supposed to be a problem with the request sent by the client.

Can you provide a Debug ID for retrieving a PDF from Zotero 6 and then immediately switch back to Zotero 7 and provide another Debug ID for the same file?
  • Thanks for your help.
I submitted the debug log for v6 which worked.
Then loaded v7 which worked also. I wonder if the problem was because I had a dozen programs open. I will keep experimenting to see when the problem occurs.
    Thanks
  • Again, it was a server error. There's no reason to think it had anything to do with your computer. It absolutely was not caused by having a dozen programs open. It was just a temporary problem with the doi.org servers, like I said above. This happens occasionally. You don't need to think about it further.
