adamsmithZotero just uses whatever gets imported into the Journal Abbr. field, which is very inconsistent and depends on the database. If you want consistent abbrevation output, in BibTeX, use the BBT add-on, which has functionality to hook into Zotero's automated citations (which are derived from the publication title, not the abbreviation field)
