Mac Software Update Stole my Data - how do I sync to web library

Hello, I updated my operating system on my Macbook and it disappeared everything on my laptop. Fortunately, I had my Zotero library backed up on the site and I can see that my web library remains in tact. But my library on my laptop remains empty, even though I have gone into my preferences and checked the two boxes concerning syncing. How do I download my web library back on to my laptop Zotero library.

    I don't know what two boxes you're referring to — everything relevant is enabled by default, once you've entered your username and password — but you would just need to click the Sync button in the toolbar after setting up syncing.

    Yeah, you would think. I have pressed the sync button. It even confirms that sync has been completed. Nevertheless, the files that are in the web library do not appear in my desktop application. Thoughts?
