iOS app loses comments/notes/documents

I have Zotero on my iPad, so far it has completely lost one pdf with highlights [said it was deleted externally and could not be recovered, but the pdf was still on my iPad?] and has lost all the comments I’d added to notes or highlights. Do I need Zotero on a laptop in order to prevent this from happening?

What was the exact message? That's certainly not any sort of normal situation — no files in the app get deleted unless you purge downloaded files from the app settings. And what do you mean by "but the pdf was still on my iPad"?

Is your iPad low on space?

Also, the app syncs everything, so unless you were at your Zotero Storage quota, which you're not, or you're using WebDAV file syncing and there's some problem with that, any file that was ever in the app should be downloaded automatically when you open it, even if you purge it from the settings.

I mean the original pdf I downloaded to my iPad and then added to Zotero was still in my downloads but is no longer in Zotero. I can’t remember the exact wording but it said something about being removed externally and then asked if I wanted to restore, but when I clicked restore it said it couldn’t. It hasn’t happened with any other pdf, just that one. I downloaded Zotero onto my work laptop today which has all the notes/comments for the rest of my library, thankfully.

No, my iPad isn’t low on space at all
  • We'd need to see the exact error message you're getting to say more. What you're describing doesn't sound like anything in Zotero itself.
