Today I was working on a document from Zotero on my desktop, and it seems my colleague opened the same document and also edited it. As a result, neither of us can open the file or see the changes. An error message appears. Is it possible to recover the latest modifications? Thanks.
  • What do you mean by "a document"? What kind of document? What's the error message?
  • [JavaScript Error: "Win error 32 during operation removeEmptyDir on file C:\Users\[…]\Zotero\storage\EEQPS9V2 (El proceso no tiene acceso al archivo porque está siendo utilizado por otro proceso.
@K.Puerta: I'm guessing you're referring to the Word document in this folder. Note that storing a Word document in Zotero isn't something we recommend, and if two people edit the file at the same time, it will create a file conflict, which will force you to pick one side or the other and throw out the other person's changes. It's much better to store a Word document you're working on collaboratively in something like OneDrive.

In this case, you just still have the file open on your system, so Zotero can't overwrite it with the remote version. You should make sure you've made a backup copy of the file in case there are changes of yours that you want to keep.

And then once you've resolved this, I would move the file out of Zotero and remove the attachment item.

    That was the problem.

I already have the document closed. Is there a way to recover the changes made in my Zotero user account? Thank you.

    This is the error:

If you're getting that error, something is still holding on to the file. Try restarting your computer.
