MODS export authors

edited September 28, 2023
Exporting a zotero collection as MODS in Zotero version 6.0.27 I get the autor names with the wrong roleTerm:

<name type="personal">
<namePart type="family">Petrarca</namePart>
<namePart type="given">Francesco</namePart>
<role>
<roleTerm type="code" authority="marcrelator">aut</roleTerm>
</role>
</name>

The correct roleTerm code for authors is "cre" for cretator.
Any idea what's wrong here?

Thanks,
Christoph
  • Why do you think that should be "cre"?
    As indicated by the authority attribute, we're using the MARC relator there, and as per
    https://www.loc.gov/marc/relators/relaterm.html

    Author [aut]
    A person, family, or organization responsible for creating a work that is primarily textual in content, regardless of media type (e.g., printed text, spoken word, electronic text, tactile text) or genre (e.g., poems, novels, screenplays, blogs).

    which looks good to me.

    Creator [cre] is also an option, but I think aut is the better and more specific choice here.

    (I looked in the LC Catalog to see what they're doing, but their MODS either doesn't use anything or uses type="text" with "author", so that's of little help).
  • I refer to https://www.loc.gov/standards/mods/mods2marc-mapping.html where the code "cre" is used to create MARC 100 fields. The same does the tool Marcedit.
    So if I convert MODS data from Zotero to MARC, the autor of a book for example becomse category 700, not 100 in MARC.
    That's why I asked.
