Zotero says I don't have enough storage even though I just bought more!

Report ID: 682713897

I bought more storage, and synced my laptop without incident. I've tried to sync my desktop and I am told that I don't have enough storage. I just bought the 6GB plan, and the settings page says I'm only using 5% of it. So what's the deal?

Thanks in advance!
Jessica
  • Have you emptied your trash, Jessica?
  • In almost all cases where this is reported, this ends up being two different accounts -- i.e. make sure that you are actually syncing with the exact same username. If you bought storage for the wrong username, you can email storage@zotero.org to transfer it (but all support will happen here)
  • @DonnaCoxBaker: You mean, the trash on my machine? Or Trash in Zotero? If the latter, I'm not sure what that is.

@adamsmith: I double checked. Both machines are logged in as jessicafg77.

I'm not sure what's going on...
  • Aaaaand, @adamsmith, you were right. I had two very similar user names. I will email storage. And now, I have to figure out how to merge these two separate libraries on two different machines. Suggestions for that would be most welcome.

    Thanks so much!! Jess
  • I'd recommend using a group to merge:
Start the group with the account that has the paid storage (so it has lots of file storage), drag all collections from the other account to the group, then drag them from the group to the main (again, paid storage) account. At that point, once you've made sure you've merged all info, I'd recommend deleting both that group and the duplicate account.
  • Great. This is super helpful. Thank you!!
  • So glad you found the problem, Jessica. The trash is something you'll want to keep purged. It's in your Zotero workspace in the Collections pane to the left at the bottom--just before you get to the Group Libraries. A deleted item will take up space until you empty the trash.

No, you're generally not meant to worry about the trash. It purges items after 30 days by default. (It's fine to empty manually if you're trying to free storage space after deleting things, but it wouldn't have applied here, because the settings page was reporting only 5% usage.)
  • Thanks, Dan. Good to know!
