Somehow cannot download PDF of journal paper

Debug ID: 1692829411
I have been using Zotero to download and view pdf version of papers for several months and it's been working well. But recently I can only save the snapshot to Zotero. Tried to restart the software and Mac but failed to fix it. The debug states: The connection was refused when attempting to contact xxx. Any help will be highly appreciated!
  • It seems like I give a wrong debug ID. Here is the updated one: D1329052069
  • We'd also need the URL, exactly as you see it
  • Hi Adam, thanks a lot for the reply. Here is the URL: https://pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/acs.est.8b03441
  • Thanks mj for the solution. This link shows similar issue but I cannot solve it with the solution listed there. Cannot find the "Atypon" when I right click the Save to Zoetro icon...
  • 1) Load the page in your browser
    2) Wait for the Zotero Connector to identify the correct translator for that webpage. You should see a white icon with lines appearing.
    3) Right-click on the Save to Zotero icon
    4) Go to the second line of the menu (something like Save to Zotero, but I see it in French on my computer)
    5) In the new sub-menu, select Save to Zotero (Atypon Journals), which should be the second option

If you still cannot find it, you can share here a screenshot at the step which does not work for you.
  • Thank you so much mjthoraval!

I am a Mac user so I use Safari a lot rather than Chrome. When this pdf issue occurred, I tried to use both Safari and Chrome to download pdf to Zotero but none of the browsers function properly. Now I am able to download the pdf from Chrome with your step-by-step instructions. Really appreciate your help!

I am also wondering if you have any idea how to fix the problem on Safari? There are only two options when I right-click the Save to Zotero icon: Manage Extension and Customize Toolbar.

See https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/safari_compatibility#limitations and the last line:
It's not possible to right-click on the toolbar button to access secondary translators. Instead, right-click on the page itself.
  • @poettli Thank you so much! I'd say it works better than click the Save to Zotero icon on top.

Thank you all for your reply. Have a great one!
