Multiple duplicates/backups of "zotero.sqlite" file.

Hello,

I have looked in the forum concerning the issue, but couldn't find an answer.

While cleaning my hard drive disk, the cleaning app has identified duplicate files of the same size and content, inside the Zotero repertory:

Zotero>zotero.sqlite (610,2Mb, Sep 20, 2023, 13:06:07)
Zotero>zotero.sqlite.1.bak (610,2Mb, Sep 18, 2023, 11:58:20)
Zotero>zotero.sqlite.bak (610,2Mb, Sep 19, 2023, 12:58:43)

As I understand, the .bak files are backups of my library, but is it normal to have two backups?

I wish to free some space on my HDD. Is it possible to have only one backup out of two? I 'm used to frequently do an external backups of my entire HDD with Time Machine.

Best,
R.
  • It's normal to have multiple ones, yes. You can safely delete the -1 one, but Zotero will regularly (re)create redundant automatic back ups
  • You can change extensions.zotero.backup.numBackups to 1 in the Config Editor in the Advanced pane of the settings if you only want one automatic backup.
  • Brilliant!
Thanks to you both for your messages and help.
