    It is possible to have files in your library that are not in folders - when you did not move them into folders or import them into folders, they will just be in your library.

    In Zotero's left column there is a pre-defined collection "Unfiled items". It holds those of your articles (427 minus a few dozen) that are in your database but not (yet) in one of the folders/user-defined collections. (This comes in handy for those OCD types among us that don't want to leave any item unassigned to a collection, and I know what I am talking about.)
